A Call to Volunteerism on this MLK Day
Today, our nation pays homage to a great civil rights leader who through his deeds and actions inspired us all. The day is also most fitting in that unlike our celebration of Presidents’ Day, next month, which is awash with retail sales and promotions, is instead a day of national volunteerism. It is indeed a most befitting and appropriate way to commemorate the important message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
I want to use this national day of volunteerism to remind all our employees of a company benefit they have access to. After being on our team for six months, you are entitled to one PTO day to volunteer in your community. You can choose the organization of your choice and all we ask is that you share your good work with our community by writing it up on social media and including some photos. This benefit repeats itself every six months or twice a year for longer serving employees.
Over the years, your colleagues have cooked and served meals in soup kitchens, picked fruits and vegetables on a farms to feed the hungry, and volunteered as an emergency medical technicians.
We are proud of the good work of our people and the important role they play in their communities. We are grateful to the memory of Dr. King and the goodness that memory can inspire in each of us.
