Our Clients Look Up at the Sky, Not at Their Boots
I had the opportunity early this morning to participate in a terrific UK-Israel Business webinar that featured industry leader Martin Sorrell who shared an observation that was very salient for our business and clients –“Our clients look up at the sky, not at their boots.” The imagery is right on point, that our average client –those who have turnover between US$100 million and US$1 billion—are generally owner-driven companies who imagine growth, identify opportunity and then drive successful strategies that enable them to achieve success. They don’t walk around looking down, afraid of taking the next step forward. They look to the sky and see an expanse with numerous blue-sky opportunity, even in a world of uncertainty.
Sir Martin is the legendary CFO at Saatchi & Saatchi who left to create advertising conglomerate WPP from a shopping cart shell company into one of the leading holding companies in our industry. He now runs S4 Capital focused on digital marketing.
As we have seen throughout the past year and the horrific pandemic that has impacted virtually every part of our lives, owner-driven companies are nimble with a unique ability to see opportunities in change and quickly create and execute new strategies that enable them to succeed.
When we look at our clients in the home furnishings, consumer products, technology, financial services and not-for-profits, there is no better example of this. It has been a privilege to help our clients communicate the changes in their businesses that has enabled them to succeed for their shareholders, customers, employees and communities this past year.
