ADVICE TO COLLEGE GRADUATES AND INTERNS: HONE YOUR STORY TELLING AND WRITING SKILLS
As we continue our series offering tips for graduates who are starting out in public relations and those who are about to begin their summer internships, today Sheila Long O’Mara, vice president in our home furnishings practice shares her tip –
Congratulations on your recent or impending graduation!
I remember how exciting that time can be. By now, I am guessing that you’re either knee-deep in your new job or great internship or perhaps in the midst of the great job search. Whatever your status, I have some advice which will be helpful throughout each of those stages. Hone your story telling skills and really work at the craft of writing. We tell stories daily for our clients and much of that information sharing comes through the form of the written word so keep in mind whether writing a press release, pitch, media alert, email to the media or an email to a colleague – clear, effective writing is the key to getting your message across to the recipient.
Best of luck in your endeavors!
