Independence Day
There is no better time than Independence Day in the United States to remind each of us of the importance of freedom, in speech, opportunity and growth. The public relations industry in the United States, and indeed other democracies would not grow and flourish as it has without free speech and a free press. We work essentially untethered by restrictions other than good taste and judgment to ply our craft. Our clients can express themselves as they wish and we have unfettered access to media and the halls of power to affect the advocacy of their message and agenda.
We might anguish over who we will support for president, criticize a dysfunctional Congress, or internalize the highs and lows of the stock market. But what we must cherish is our freedom and our opportunity for personal, family and corporate growth.
I hope you enjoyed the long holiday weekend in the U.S. Beyond your hot dogs and hamburgers at the requisite holiday barbecue, it is my hope you took a moment to appreciate why we celebrate this holiday in the United States.
