ADVICE TO COLLEGE GRADUATES AND INTERNS: BRING YOUR PASSION

As we continue our series offering tips for graduates who are starting out in public relations and those who are about to begin their summer internships, today Kristin Hawkins, vice president in our home furnishings practice shares her tip –

My advice to a college graduate looking to get into a PR career would be to bring your passion. When you are in PR, you need to believe in the brand and the product that you are pitching. You are an extension of their brand and become a brand ambassador. When you are pitching their product, their brand, their stories, it’s like you are a part of their team and you should be just as excited about the product as the client is, especially when you get the placements at the end of the day. For me, the most thrilling part of the job is seeing the client’s name or product in print – or any kind of media for that matter. Make sure to bring your excitement and passion and the success will follow shortly thereafter.
